Because of disobedience the children of Israel went into 70years captivity in Babylon. After the exile, they went back to Jerusalem to rebuild the temple of God and to re-consecrate their lives to true fellowship with God. (Haggai 1:4) Due to oppositions, they relinquished their goals and pitched their tents in the place of complacency settling down in their comfort zone. (Isaiah 32:10) and focused on building their empires.
God is not interested in people who pull back and chicken out after putting their hands to the plough (Lk. 9:32) After salvation, there is a cross to carry daily if we must reap the benefits of salvation contained in the promises of God (Gal. 2:18, 20).
