Putting God First
By Aduke Obey | January Sun 16, 2011

To experience the presence of God and be all that God wants you to be, you’ll have to put your life in proper perspective. You need to re-priotize your life by putting God first (Matt. 6:33). If every other thing must work right in your life, you need to get the first things right. This is the first principle; once you move God from the position of first in your life every other thing falls out of place and leads to chaos.

Matthew 6:33 says “Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness…” To ‘seek’ is to inquire and continue to inquire, to frequent a place. When seeking God’s face about an issue, you continue until you get an answer.
In II Chronicles 26:5 it was said concerning King Uzziah that “as long as he sought the Lord, God made him prosper”. There is nothing too insignificant to seek God’s face about. To seek the kingdom of God is to desire to know God’s will and do it. Seek God concerning your job, business, career choice, marriage or business partner etc. King Uzziah continued to prosper as long as he sought God, because it takes faith and humility to seek God and continue to seek Him. Without faith, it is impossible to please God (Heb. 11:6) and God gives more grace to the humble (1 Pet. 5:5). Isaac in Genesis 26 stayed in the land of famine at God’s instruction and as God blessed him he began to prosper and continued to proper until he became very prosperous (vs13).
There are many people that today wish they could reverse time and seize the opportunity of the counsel they were given years back to seek God’s face. A job that seems quite lucrative could only be a distraction or a trap of the enemy; we being human are finite in knowledge, but God is infinite and knows the end from the beginning. This is the reason why you must depend on the All knowing God to direct your path in all aspects of life (Prov. 3:5-6).
Seek comes from the root word meaning ‘those who fear the Lord’ and the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. Therefore, if you so desire a divine turnaround this year 2011, wisdom depicts that you seek God first. Enthrone Him King in your heart; put Him first in all your decisions. Refuse to be led by your flesh or the standard of the world. Don’t make decisions until you have sought God’s face.
To seek the kingdom is to live a life where God is always given the first place in your life. Give Him the first hours of your day, worship Him, sing praises, talk to Him, read the Bible; these are all part of giving Him the first of your day. Wake up with Him on your mind. The benefit of this is that He directs your path and you respond to His leading. He also opens doors that no one can shut. Plan to give Him the first fruit of your increase this year; where your treasure is there you heart is also.  Can you think of areas of your life where you need to put God first? As you make God the number one factor of your life this year the lines will surely fall into pleasant places for you in every area of your life. God is a rewarder of those that diligently seek Him. Let your focus be God first.
